Little Red Riding Hood (Le Petit Chaperon Rouge) was originally a tale through word of mouth, first in French print in 1697 by Charles Perrault. This tale differs from today’s more well-known versions. The wolf in Perrault’s version eats both Grandmother and Little Red, and that is where the story ends. The moral being that young girls should not talk to strangers, for the “wolves” could eat them up. In versions since Perrault’s, they end with the wolf dying and Grandmother and Little Red surviving.
